Every year Tallowood Baptist Church has a day where service projects are conducted around the city. This year the International Friends Sunday School Class put together Children’s Goody Bags for the Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston – a refugee resettlement agency. Butch Green, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Missionary to Houston, was our Serve the City contact and helped guide the project.

The International Friends SS class began collecting/donating items for the Goody bags in February 2017.  Each week class members would bring various items to class for storage. The bags were prepared on April 22, 2017 with about seven adults and several children stuffing the plastic zip lock bags.  The bags consisted of the following crayons, a variety stickers, several coloring pages, small pads of paper, and a small toy.   When a family comes to the agency their case worker will give each child a goody bag to play with while the adults are in conference.

Everyone had fun from choosing what went into each bag, to tearing out coloring sheets and sticker sheets. Busy workers completed sixty three bags.

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve the city of Houston and to welcome new refugees!
