A Cooking School in Chiang Mai Thailand for Girls rescued from Trafficking
Project 85098
The total project cost is $8000 and is partnership with Global Women and the READ Foundation (Resources of Education, Awareness, and Development) in Thailand.
This project will provide an alternative method for the young women who have been victims of sex trade to make money and nurture them in a Christian environment. Baking skills will be taught, dietary science, recipes for pastries and bread shared for the restaurant and hotel industry. The initial financial commitment will help provide an oven, necessary kitchen appliance and tools as well as a salary for the teacher for one year to train the girls.
This project supports Millennium Development Goals 1,3.6, and 8. Measurement will be determined by the READ Foundation based on number of young women who move into a self sustaining lifestyle without returning to the sex trade. READ already has teams that are working with the young women in areas of exiting the sex trade and counseling once exited.
Volunteer teams will be offered the opportunity to travel to Chiang Mai and to teach baking skills as well as dietary science. There is also the possibility of building a resource library.
