Many of us who grew up in the church or are presently in the ministry live with a lot of guilt.   Guilt that we aren't good enough or haven't done enough good for God.  This shapes our thinking both before and after we become Christians.

While in Afghanistan, I met a boy, Habib, who thought he could never be good enough for God.   But once he realized that God had forgiven him in Christ, his life was transformed by the "goodness' of God.  In Luke 10: 30-41 two stories share one common theme.   In the first story, the good samaritan does one good deed for an injured traveler.  He doesn't do everything, but what he does do is enough for that moment.  His friend, the innkeeper, does the rest.   In the second story of Martha and Mary, Jesus commends Mary for doing the one, good deed that needed doing.   Martha had other ideas; but that wasn't the one good thing Jesus needed.   Jesus sums it up in verse 42:  "But few things are needed - or indeed only one."

So my hard-working friend, chill out and relax a bit.   Just do the one good thing Jesus asks you to do - "Follow me."
